چکیده

An alternative to the set hypothesis for warm-up decrement (WU) is proposed which states that WU is due to the loss over rest of an activity-set consisting of proper adjustment of activation, attention to relevant sources of feedback, etc. Force estimation (Exp. 1) and arm positioning (Exp. 2 and 3) were used as criterion tasks. During an interpolated rest period, activities were introduced which were intended to reinstate the lost activity-set but which would not contribute habit strength to the criterion task. WU on subsequent criterion task performance was nearly eliminated in one task (Exp. 1) and greatly reduced in another (Exp. 2 and 3), and the evidence strongly supported the activity-set hypothesis.

Reducing Warm-up Decrement in the Performance of the Tennis Serve

In the present study an attempt was made to determine the relative effectiveness of various warm-up activities in eliminating postrest warm-up decrement (WUD) in the tennis serve. Seventy highly-skilled players hit 20 serves, rested for either 5 or 15 min, and then attempted 4 final serves. During the last 2 min of the rest period, players continued to rest, ran in place, engaged in mental imag...

Bi-Level Control Policy for Redundant Repairable Multicomponent System with Reneging, Set Up and Vacation

This paper deals with bi-level control policy and queuing analysis of a machine repair problem. The model is developed by incorporating mixed standbys (cold and warm), reneging, set up and vacation time. The repair facility consists of two heterogeneous repairmen in the system. The life and repair time of the failed units and also their set up times are assumed to be exponentially distributed. ...
